The Project
The Main Building
While many people thought about buying La Coralina nobody came forth. The remodel was really an incredibly huge amount of work, I see that now in hind-site. Many people had different visions for the project. I wanted to change very little of the original building and the Spanish style courtyard directly behind the house. The character of the buildings was what moved me to buy the project from the beginning. What did take place was new electric, new plumbing and baths, the re-design and installation of doors and windows, new ceilings, and thousands and thousands of hours of everything else. My heartfelt thanks goes to my father, who in the beginning thought I could never do it, but with his generous help we got the job done. Dad, I love you, thank you! Additional thanks goes to my brothers, sister, mother and many friends for their help and support. Closer to home constant thanks continuous to my dear friend Rick, without him, I would be left standing scratching my head wondering what to do next.
The Garden Project
The grounds and gardens at La Coralina are and will always be a work in progress. When I began the project the grounds, like the hotel, were left to ruin for more than 20 years. There really was nothing but weeds and coconuts. I had a small budget for landscaping which I quickly invested in trees to take root while the hotel was under remodel. From this point, it has been weeks of digging plants from the jungle, planting living gifts from my neighbor’s yards and the occasional splurge at Finca Los Monos the incredible local botanical garden. I have a head full of future ideas!
The Original Suites Project
The first suites, the Ocean & Garden, at the hotel were kind of a quirky idea that none of my family and friends could vision. I had a great shell structure that was a bit “Taco Bell” meets the Alamo. I really couldn’t see tearing it down, it had so much character, thus the idea for the two rooms.
